Making childcare more affordable

I want to talk about a subject that hits close to home for many of us: the affordability and accessibility of childcare.

You may have already heard about Bill C-35 (An Act respecting early learning and childcare in Canada). It’s one of the ways our Liberal government is demonstrating their commitment to making life more affordable for our families.

But what does Bill C-35 really mean for you? In simple terms, it's about making sure every child in Canada has the best possible start in life. It’s about creating an affordable, inclusive, and high-quality early learning and childcare system that leaves no family behind, regardless of where they live. The Government of Canada is working with provinces, territories, and Indigenous communities to build a system that lasts for generations to come. As a father of three daughters, this bill means a lot to me.

Here is a summary of what we hope to accomplish through Bill C-35:

  • Transparency and Accountability: Bill C-35 will require the federal government to publicly report on the progress made towards the establishment of this nationwide system.
  • National Advisory Council on Early Learning and Child Care: This body of experts will provide valuable advice to the government and serve as a platform for discussion about challenges and issues in the sector.
  • Investment of $30 Billion: The government is making a historic investment over five years to build this nationwide early learning and childcare system.
  •
  • Goal for Child Care Fees: The aim is to bring the cost of regulated childcare across Canada to an average of $10-a-day by March 2026.
  • Affordability and Inclusivity: We intend to build an affordable, inclusive, and high-quality early learning and childcare system that all families can access, regardless of where they live.

Our Liberal government understands that the success of our country lies in the success of our children. And I, as your representative, am dedicated to making this vision a reality. Together, we can and will make life more affordable for families, now and into the future. As always. I’d love to hear your thoughts. Please don’t hesitate to write to me and share your thoughts on how we can make life better for families living in Northeast Calgary, and across the country.
